Artists for Kosovar Refugees: A Benefit Auction

Stephanie Damoff

A photographer and a Ph.D. philosophy student living in New York. She works on issues of feminism and gender, as well as the environment. She has worked with Women in Black New York since 1993.

This work was made in collaboration with Jasmina Tesanovic, a Serbian feminist writer, and her book, "Normality: A Moral Opera of a Political Idiot": a literary account of daily life in Belgrade from March 1998 to June 1999. The photographs attempt to, in dilalogue with the text, show the complexities of life under a modern dictatorship, under economic sanctions and in a state of civil war. Together they debate the category of normality and what becomes of it under extreme political and social conditions. The book is forthcoming in Serbian and Spanish language editions.

Individual prints can also be purchased from the photographer.
